Focus, Fire and Wrestling

Everyday life brings lessons and opportunity’s to re-enforce the things we do know. Today was no different in my life, I was at my daughters middle school watching her wrestling match. As I was watching each weight class wrestle I started to tune into the focus and the fire with in each wrestler. You could see the fire in each wrestlers eyes. The fire varied in measurement with each individual. Some of the wrestlers had a lot fire that was so strong you could feel it in the bleachers. Others seemed like they were just there. You could see who was present and who wasn’t. I m not judging these great kids by any means. I have respect for them being involved in the sport. It was simply intriguing that these kids at a young age were already setting their selves up for potential success or failure. Sure there are factors such as weight class and skills, but skills can be improved upon.

The Match,The Fire

I was watching this one boy wrestle. He came with that look in his eye of “I am taking you down.” You could feel it exuding from him and his opponent could too. His opponent was much more submissive. The match started and this boy with the fire took control and was seriously in control of his destiny. Then the other wrestlers coach yelled out to the referee, to watch the hold. The referee stopped the fight and re-positioned boys. The other coach started to say watch my kid ref, that kid is not being safe. Fair enough, safety and rules are important; however you need check your self, make the correction and go back to match.

Instead this boy let it all get into his head and the fire that he had started out with extinguished. I didn’t see it anymore. His whole mind set changed because he let someone get into his head and he started to lose focus. The other boy took control and played on that.  He lost his confidence even though he was more skilled.

As soon as you start to play the opponents game you have turned over your fire and your pretty much done.

Re-Focus, Take Charge of Your Thoughts

Why you ask I am talking about this wrestling match? I am talking about this match because it shows how we can be in charge of our thoughts and mind. We need to always stay in-tune with our thoughts. We need to keep that fire in our eyes and in our heart and souls. Its that passion that will drive us to greatness. So, when you feel defeated or you have lost focus. Remember to look at the situation and realize it is a teaching moment not a defining moment.

Get right back to who you are and what you are doing so you can achieve your goals. Keep reaching for them each and everyday so that you will always be striving for greatness.

Then go get a cup of coffee and drink to you.

One of One!
